What do you mean I'm supposed to work??

Egads - a third entry - stop the world!!The day didn't turn out to be as much of a cake walk as I had hoped. I know, how rude is that? We've got this big project that is NUMBER ONE PRIORITY for the Executive Director of the department (never mind that the #1 is a moving target and seems to change more often than some people do their underwear...) and because I'm the Front Person for the application and all the project managers come to me for help with the processes and the app, I get to sit in on all the meetings so that I'm kept up to date on what's being done, decisions being made, etc. Did I mention that we're supposed to have all day working sessions on Wed & Thurs, and more Friday morning, to get everything ready for the pilot group to start up on Monday? Yipee! I'm sure I'll be thrilled to be a lump in a chair and oh gee - once again not having any authority about decisions being made. The guy in charge of this project irritates me more and more every day. I feel like he "demotes" me every time he talks with me, like I'm just some lowly person that can't possibly know what it is like to run a project or report to directors or the like. Whatever. I have the skills and abilities to BE one of the directors! I'm just biding my time and paying my bills for now. He reminds me far too much of when I was doing admin asst / secretary stuff and the men that would treat me like I was stupid just because I was in that role. Never mind I had a college degree in Astronomy and Physics and could probably do THEIR jobs at the time (I was 23), too. Sorry - that's a hot button of mine. If you've never done admin work before DON'T treat the admin like they are stupid. The amount of work, personalities, changing priorities, and every other little detail that makes an office tick aren't easy to do. I'd love for all managers & up have to be a secretary for a month. Long enough that they can't just wait for the person to come back and have to keep up with all the items coming in. I bet there would be a serious change in attitudes after that. And if the person (because women can be just as bad as men unfortunately) doesn't have a change of heart, then you know they are an idiot or an asshole (or both!) and you should find a different place or boss to work for anyway. That's my two cents worth. :) Where was I? Oh yeah, talking about this new pilot project and how thrilled I am to sit in on these meetings. We'll see how it goes. This guy has the opinion that you are supposed to drop everything immediately when he has a question so you can answer him right then. Given the role I'm in, *everyone* thinks I should drop everything to help them so the pecking order in my book is first-come-first-served OR my boss, if she needs my help. She gets the trump card, and if she tells me to drop whatever for someone else, I do. Otherwise, sorry, take a number and get in line. It'll be nice to go home, that's for sure. I'll be heading out here shortly (yep, still at work). Waiting for a couple responses and finish up my 8 hours for the day. So much fun.
